New York Portraits: Grand Central Market

You have no idea how this blog is a very fortuitous find. My husband a few weeks ago suggested I review a blog focusing on photography. I stated I had not found one that I really liked to review. However, I then found New York Portraits. While there is much to experience with this blog, I’ll make this review simple, short and pleasing. The blogstress Kitty captures The City perfectly. She not only captures the beautiful typography of NYC and it’s architecture, but also what makes New York…New York, and that is the people and how they live. While the blogstress’ camera also focuses on different parts of the county, depending on where she finds her next vacation, NYC is her target and she portrays it lovingly and beautifully. Kitty’s commentary, while not a necessary component to her posted art work, are charming. And they give the reader a nice insight into the blogstress’ personality.  The very minor rub with this blog is that the pictures can appear very slightly blurry on the blog. However once you click on the picture itself you’ll be taken to Flicker where they appear clear as day. So if you want to be in The City everyday of week, whether you live there or not, I suggest you visit New York Portraits, images you soon won’t forget.

We all have them. They are the things that we know don’t necessarily increase our mental capacity or our emotional and spiritual growth. Rather they feed our salacious desire for gossip and longing for that grass on the other side. Here is my “thing,” it’s called Guest of a Guest. It reads like an on-line Hello Magazine of sorts. Only it is beholden to all things NYC and Hamptons: e.g. parties, people, restaurants, gossip, charity events. What is so delicious is that many famous people and socialites (…since PAP is on Life Support this is my new source) live in Apple. The daily posts read like an US or People Magazine and the pictures are similar, but no less oddly fascinating. make sure to read the About section of the blog, the profiles are quite humorous. However, like I’ve said before, every now and then you need your mind candy just make sure you get it from a Guest of a Guest.

This past Friday I had the pleasure of seeing The September Issue, and while I am a rather considerable fashion and magazine addict, the movie also rekindled my love of NYC (the NYC that I loved and admittedly hated during my college summers of living and working there). Walking off the Big Apple  has done the same. The blog has also reminded me of the  reason why so many people move to NYC and why even more never want to leave it.
